Pulborough Befriends

Pulborough Befriends has a team of local Volunteer Friends who meet or visit people in Pulborough and the surrounding villages who are feeling lonely or socially isolated.

We already provide a valued Community Transport Service and well attended Wednesday Lunch Club and are acutely aware of the significant levels of loneliness experienced by people living in our community.

Pulborough Befriends has a wonderful team of Volunteer Friends who make a huge difference by spending as little as 1 hour a week visiting someone lonely, either in their home or meeting with them in the local community.

How does the Pulborough Befriends service work?

Our Volunteer Friends are carefully matched with the people we visit to create reliable and supportive friendships that aim to support and encourage through regular visits.

Visits are usually weekly and could involve meeting for a cup of tea and a chat, playing games or cards, going for a walk, attending a local group or activity or doing some shopping together.

The service is supported by Pulborough Medical Group and has a Steering Group to help guide the project.

The Steering Group is chaired by Dr Tim Fooks (former High Sheriff) and includes the Senior Social Prescriber from Pulborough Medical Group and the Chair of Age UK, West Sussex.

Who can access the Pulborough Befriends service?

We are accepting referrals from Pulborough Medical Group and The Glebe Surgery for people who are feeling lonely or are socially isolated, who live in Pulborough or the surrounding villages and are over 18 years old.

If you wish to self-refer or refer someone directly, please contact our Project Co-ordinator who will discuss the service we are able to offer with you.   You can read more information about our service here.
